Keukenhof has a special theme this weekend. The park is completely dedicated to the Old Dutch way of living. During this theme you will experience in Keukenhof the Old Dutch way of dressing and living. Besides the fact that there is much to tell about this theme, Keukenhof also has a very rich history. The Keukenhof castle was built in 1641 and slowly the estate around it grew to an area of more than 200 hectares.
Landscape architects Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher, also known for designing the Vondelpark in Amsterdam, re-established the garden around the castle in 1857. That park is still the basis of Keukenhof.
In 1949, a group of leading flower bulb growers and flower bulb exporters came up with the plan to create an exhibition of spring flowering bulbs on the estate. And so the Keukenhof park was born.
But Rent-a-Bike van Dam also has a great history.
Rent-a-Bike van Dam, the rental part of Van Dam Bikes, was established in 2003. But van Dam's roots go back to the 1920’s. Many generations have already been involved in bikes, which all starts with Cornelis van Dam. And because pictures always say more than a thousand words, we have popped up some nice snapshots for you. View our nice family history here, using a few old pictures.
